Periodontology

Periodontology is the branch of dentistry that deals with the treatment of diseases of all supporting and investing structures of the teeth. In this department, we educate and train 3rd year dental students a basic understanding of Periodontal science and practical training necessary to provide patients with basic periodontal care.Further, our faculty provides advance periodontal training to house & trainee medical officers to enhance their understanding and skills for periodontal procedures. This aims at enhancing students’ clinical skills in diagnosing, treating and preventing periodontal diseases for a wide range of patients.
Our faculty also provide contemporary, comprehensiveand compassionate dental care to the members of our surrounding community and conduct cutting-edge research to advance our discipline’s professional knowledge base.

Head of Department Profile

Dr. Yasir is a versatile mentor with diverse educational & academic experiences abroad & in
Pakistan. His incredible ambitions & capabilities in the rare field of Periodontics makes him
prominent clinician and researcher in Pakistani dental community. He is an active member of
International Association of Dental Research (IADR), who also honored him with prestigious
awards for his novel contributions in dental research.

Skills & Expertise

Clinical: Diagnosing, treating and preventing periodontal diseases. Performing scaling and root
planning, surgical and non-surgical periodontal procedures, gingivectomy, crown lengthening,
simple and open flaps for debridement, regenerative periodontal therapies, guided tissue and bone
regeneration using bone grafts, periodontal plastic surgeries for root coverage in gingival recession
cases. Treating furcation involvement and placement of dental implant.

Basic Research: In vitro/In vivo regeneration of bone, periodontal & dental pulp tissues. Synthesis
of collagen for guided tissue/bone regeneration. Therapeutic concepts for the treatment of
periodontitis and its molecular signaling, Innate Immunity resolution of inflammation.
